Even in the early spring of this year, when the summer collection still was on needles, three designs were to become stylized clouds, and their shape and essence were to convey the features of these clouds. Stratus, Cumulus, and Cirrus. Stratus and Cumulus had been designed in the summer; we tested and knitted them. Stratus even became the most popular design of the summer collection. With Cirrus, then it did not work out, but I could not let myself not to complete the cloud triad. Cirrus moved into the next spring knitwear collection (Tender Graphics. Spring Equinox). And I’m even glad of that. The cardigan turned out to be most similar to cirrus clouds, far more than his unfulfilled predecessor.

Cumulus Stratus Cirrus
Cirrus clouds – scattered, thin, filamentous clouds in the form of thin white fibers or slightly grayish elongated ridges and shreds, often in the shape of a feather. The cardigan stitch pattern resembles cirrus clouds meeting and diverging high in the blue sky: lightness, airiness, translucency. A lose cropped cardigan with tight ribs, and a drop shoulder is a trendy shape of the upcoming seasons. The extra length for the bust, the shoulder slopes, and the sleeve caps are shaped using small scattered darts between the decorative stripes of stylized cirrus clouds.
Cirrus – a cropped cardigan, or the so-called shortigan, takes its roots in the early nineties. I then had a similar one – with a tight rib at the lower waist, oversized, with an open V-neck, with drop-shoulders and full sleeves gathered on tight cuffs. The nineties are back in fashion, and this look, equipped with various modern knitting technologies, has come to revive. By the way, another similar design of the Foam shortigan will be released in mid-January.

Узор кардигана действительно напоминает перистые облака, встречающиеся и расходящиеся высоко в голубом небе: легкость, воздушность, просвечиваемость. Широкий укороченный кардиган со стягивающей резинкой и спущенным плечом — модный силуэт предстоящих сезонов. Дополнительная длина для груди, скосы плеч и окаты рукавов сформированы мелкими разбросанными вытачками между полосками стилизованных перистых облаков.
Cirrus – укороченный кардиган, или так называемый шортиган, берет свои корни в ранних девяностых. У меня тогда был похожий – со стягивающей резинкой на нижней талии, широкий, с открытой V-образной горловиной, со спущенными плечами и широкими рукавами, собранными на тугих манжетах. Девяностые возвращаются в моду, и этому образу, оснащенному разными современными вязальными технологиями, пришло время возродиться. Кстати, еще один похожий дизайн шортигана Foam выйдет в свет в середине января.
The Cirrus stitch pattern is the successor of the Dahlia stitch pattern; here, it is diluted with wide stripes of Stockinette stitch, and bobbles are more massive and fuller (stitch patterns can be found here). Just in these stripes of the Stockinette, or, say, in the “clear sky” between the strips of “clouds,” all the constructional techniques are implemented: bust darts, shoulder slopes, and the triangular sleeve caps. Earlier, I wrote that the Dahlia stitch pattern could not be shaped in any way. There is a changing number of stitches, and each bobble is made, turning the knitting piece several times. In Cirrus, everything has become much simpler, but no less interesting. The shoulder slopes and the extra fronts length for the bust are shaped using small scattered darts; the short rows for bust darts smoothly flow into the shoulder slopes. Sleeve caps are shaped by analogy. Such "eureka!" decisions happen infrequently, and one of them made it into Cirrus. Often you need to puzzle your brain how to implement or hide constructional techniques nicely. Here they became a highlight and decoration of the design.

В Cirrus все стало гораздо проще, но не менее интересно. Скосы плеч и дополнительная длина для груди на полочках сформированы маленькими разбросанными вытачками, а укороченные ряды для вытачек плавно перетекают в формирование скоса плеч. Окаты рукавов сформированы по аналогии. Такие "еврика!" решения случаются нечасто, и одно из таких попало именно в Cirrus. Часто нужно ломать голову, как обыграть или скрыть конструктивные приемы. Здесь они стали изюминкой и украшением дизайна.
It is difficult to judge whether this model fits for you or not, looking at only one sample of the designer. Another aspect of the Cirrus cardigan, namely his masculine note, was caught by the winner of this testing, Julia. As soon as I saw her progress, it immediately became clear to me who was seriously claiming victory this time. That is the dimension of the design that I wanted to realize, but I couldn’t transmit it myself, apparently because of the delicate pastel colors. And my dream came true.
