The wind is the flow of gases on a large scale. On the surface of the Earth, wind consists of the bulk movement of air. In order to catch and capture the wind in knitting, you need to give it an imaginary color and shape, create a direction and the ability to move. Not an easy task for yarn and knitting needles. The wind is often portrayed as sky-blue, and numerous triangles are chosen here for the shape, which symbolizes the ability of the wind to lose or gain strength. The A-line shape, raglan, sleeves as “wings”, and even mirrored side bust darts – all of them are a play of different triangles. The direction here is clearly observed in the form of horizontal ribs gathered at inclined straps, and if the wind blows, you are going to feel its tender movement in the “wings” ruffles.

Направление здесь четко наблюдается в виде горизонтальной резинки, собранной у наклонных бретелек, а если подует ветер, вы почувствуете легкое его движение между складочками «крылышек».
Top Wind was knitted, tested, and published last, without waiting for all the finished projects of Early Birds. And even with this review, I'm in a bit of a hurry. I do not want to step into the fall with the summer projects. It was not without some re-knitting – the upper part of the top was not easy. Different cuttings of armholes in the back and front pieces are shaped with varying steps of decreases; the expansion of the “wings” occurs by a smooth curved line, and also numerous short rows form ruffles. And everything is going on at the same time. But the most complicated part is over, the pattern was successfully tested, and knitting of the windy top will not be difficult. It takes only a little attention.

Без перевязов здесь не обошлось – верхняя часть топа далась нелегко. Отличающиеся вырезы пройм на спинке и на детали переда, выполнены разным ритмом убавлений; расширение «крылышек» происходит плавной изогнутой линией, а также многочисленные укороченные ряды формируют рюши. И все это одновременно. Но сложное пройдено, описание успешно протестировано, и вязать этот ветреный топ сложно не будет. Нужно лишь немного внимательности.
I have been tormenting the stitch pattern of horizontal rib for a long time. If I like something, and I see potential in something, I keep returning to it. Combination of two colors, expansion of textured stripes, combination of different thicknesses of yarn, vertical and horizontal arrangement, use instead of ordinary elastic, and even ruffles. It seems that these are just front and back loops, and what is the space for rib, each time rising to a new evolutionary step of the stitch pattern. And if you take into account my love for the purity of lines and stripes, I think I will still surf in this stitch pattern for some time.
After the first failure with the summer top Cirrus (1) (like there was no failure, rather, I did not believe in luck), Wind (2) was born. After the already obvious failure with the jumper, again, Cirrus (3), the design of the future collection Smoky (4) was born. So, slowly and painfully, as in the whole process of evolution, something less tolerable appears. I often envy tailors and clothing designers. Failed – in half an hour I cut a new piece. Here, failed, you need at least two to three weeks.

Узор горизонтальной резинки я мучаю уже давно. Если мне что-то нравится, и я вижу в чем-то потенциал, продолжаю возвращаться к этому неоднократно. Совмещение двух цветов, расширение фактурных полос, совмещение разной толщины пряжи, вертикальное и горизонтальное расположение, использование вместо обычной резинки, и даже рюши. Кажется, это всего лишь лицевые и изнаночные петли, а какое пространство для творчества, каждый раз поднимаясь на новую эволюционную ступень узора. А если еще учесть мою любовь к чистоте линий и полоскам, я думаю, еще буду долго в этом узоре купаться.
После первой неудачи с летним топом Cirrus (1) (вроде неудачи не было, скорее, в удачу не поверила), родился Wind (2). После уже явной неудачи с джемпером, опять же, Cirrus (3), родился дизайн будущей коллекции Smoky (4). Вот так, медленно и мучительно, как и во всем процессе эволюции, появляется что-то более менее толковое. Я часто завидую портным и дизайнерам шитой одежды. Не удалось – за пол часа вырезал новый кусок. Тут же, не удалось, нужны как минимум две-три недели.
In recent testings, the fall was already kicking in. Less and less Early Birds wanted to test summer designs, and I had to compete with harvest and canning. But the group got together anyway, and testing was very successful. There was one point in the pattern that made me sit down again with knitting books, patterns, and look for the difference in determining the location of stitches on the Y and Z axis. The books had not offered me anything. They did not know how to knit an increasing point and the turning point of a short row at the same time, but they brought me an idea. В последних тестированиях уже чувствовалось приближение осени. Летние модели желали тестировать все меньше и меньше ласточек, а мне пришлось конкурировать с урожаям и зимними заготовками. Но группа все равно собралась, и тестирование прошло очень успешно. Был один момент в описании, заставивший меня опять сесть за вязальные книги, описания и искать различие определения расположения петель по Y и Z оси. Книги ничего конкретного не дали, в них нет описано, как провязать точку расширения и поворот укороченного ряда одновременно, но они просто навели на мысль. The winner of the windy testing was my backstage super-brain, Natalia. She repeatedly took a pattern even before the start of the next testing. She managed to find mathematical errors that helped others to avoid unnecessary re-knitting, even if she did not participate in this particular testing. She finished Wind first and revealed a stunning result. See for yourself.
