Ribbon yarn is very appealing, and it's hard to find a knitter who doesn’t have a few skeins or cones of it stashed away. Finding a suitable stitch pattern for ribbon yarn is quite difficult, and not all patterns look good with it. Ribbon tends to wrinkle and fold. To showcase its uniqueness, you need long and slightly elongated stitches.
First came the yarn, then a stitch pattern took shape in my mind, followed by the design itself — where the raw neckline suggests a kind of casualness and the wild, untamed nature of horsetail (Equisetum), while the vertical, rhythmic structure of the pattern reflects its stepped shoots.
If you don’t have ribbon yarn, any other yarn will do — even warm, wintry yarn.
